Module: Speaking Up When Things Go Wrong

Introduction

In film or TV production, raising safety concerns should be a given - but it often isn’t. The industry has a long-established hierarchy, and many crew members, especially freelancers, feel pressure to stay silent. Fear of being labelled “difficult” or losing future work can stop someone from speaking up - even when something doesn’t feel safe.

Silence, however, can have serious consequences. If something feels wrong, saying nothing could lead to injury - or worse. This Mark Milsome Foundation module explores why speaking up is essential and how leaders, HR managers, and department heads can help create the conditions where people feel safe and supported in doing so.
