Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Policy

Equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) are central to creating a fair, respectful, and high-performing screen industry. This Policy sets out how your business promotes EDI across all aspects of your work and professional relationships. It provides practical guidance to prevent discrimination, bullying, harassment, or victimisation, and fosters a workplace and production environment where everyone can contribute fully and safely. 

This Policy applies to all working relationships in the screen industries, including employees, workers, freelancers, contractors, trainees, volunteers and anyone else engaged in work-related activities.

What's it about?

This policy explains:  

  • definitions of EDI in the workplace and what is meant by unacceptable conduct; 

  • your businesses legal obligations and expectations around workplace environment and conduct; 

  • how concerns can be raises and addressed; and  

  • how unacceptable conduct should be responded to.  

This Policy should be read as both a statement of expectations and a practical guide for creating inclusive, equitable, and respectful workplace.  

Who is this policy for?

This Policy is for all screen business with: 

  • employees, freelancers and workers; 

  • senior leaders, managers and supervisors; 

  • trainees, interns and volunteers. 

Everyone covered by this Policy has a responsibility to uphold its principles and contribute to a respectful working environment. 

It is designed to be used with: 

This Policy sits alongside our Dignity at Work Policy, which is designed to address unacceptable conduct at work, including bullying, harassment, and discrimination. For smaller businesses, the Dignity at Work Policy may be sufficient on its own to set expectations and provide a framework for supporting equality, diversity, and inclusion. This Policy also sits alongside our Sexual Harassment Policies and our Anti-Bullying policy.  

It also works alongside:  

  • the Acas Code for equality, diversity and inclusion; 

  • recruitment and hiring processes; and 

  • workplace conduct and anti-discrimination guidance.

What this Policy is not:

This Policy is not a checklist or procedural formality. It is a supportive framework to guide behaviour, decision-making, and engagement in line with EDI principles.  

Why does equality, diversity and inclusion matter? 

Screen production thrives when people from diverse backgrounds feel valued, respected, and included. Inclusive practices strengthen creativity, collaboration, and organisational success, and help ensure that the work environment is safe, equitable, and legally compliant. 

Fostering EDI is not only a legal and ethical responsibility, it is also essential for sustaining talent and maintaining the reputation of businesses in the screen sector.
