Keith Arrowsmith, Programme Director

Keith qualified as a solicitor in 1995 and has, since then, worked with organisations across the cultural and creative sectors. He provides guidance and assistance on governance, intellectual property, business law, contracts, website regulations and charity law. He is Managing Director of multi-disciplinary law firm, ProArts Plus.

As well as providing specialist legal advice, he contributes to workshops, planning days, talks, written reports and provides other bespoke guidance. Projects include professional services for national institutions, local authority services, umbrella cultural organisations and medial companies, theatres, museums and galleries of all shapes and sizes.

Val Young, Programme Manager

Val began her career in local government, where she specialized in European policy and funding. During this time, she successfully secured multi-million-pound grants from both European and UK government sources to deliver large-scale economic development projects.

In 2001, Val transitioned to the cultural sector and has since held senior leadership roles focused on fundraising and management. Her work has driven major initiatives across arts and culture, blending strategic planning with hands-on delivery to achieve impact at scale.

Val brings deep expertise in partnership development, funding strategy, and programme oversight to her role managing the WorkWise for Screen programme.

Laura Irving, Fundraising Lead

Laura is an experienced fundraising leader and consultant with a track record across the corporate, charity and arts sectors. She specialises in strategic fundraising, relationship development and building sustainable income pipelines. As Training Lead for the Chartered Institute of Fundraising North West Committee, she also plays an active role in strengthening professional practice across the sector.

At WorkWise for Screen, Laura leads on fundraising and partnerships, working closely with supporters and sponsors to maximise their social value and drive positive impact across the screen industry.

Catharine Braithwaite, Communications Consultant

Catharine has over 30 years of experience in cultural marketing communications, mainly working in the visual arts and museums sector.

She is an Associate Lecturer in marketing at The School of Museums Studies, University of Leicester, where she teaches on the MA. Catharine has been a trustee for various not-for-profit and cultural organisations, including HOME Manchester and is co-Chair of Contemporary Visual Arts Network North West. 

She has worked with Manchester International Festival as interim Director of Press, and The Hepworth Wakefield as Interim Director of Communications, Marketing and Development.

Sarah Dobbs, Online Community Engagement Manager

Sarah has an extensive background in online and social media, having worked to build and engage communities around magazines, films, and TV shows. She was a digital producer across multiple series of unscripted reality TV, ran the social media channels for Regent Street Cinema throughout the pandemic, and produced live social media commentary during broadcasts of several high-profile BBC dramas.

She also has a qualification in teaching English to speakers of other languages, and volunteers with a charity that offers free language classes to refugees and those seeking asylum.
