Background and context

WorkWise for Screen is a pilot project launched to tackle systemic challenges in working practices across the UK screen industries. Supported by the BFI awarding National Lottery funding, its aim is to provide leaders, managers, and heads of departments with practical tools to foster fair, inclusive, and legally compliant working environments.

The initiative provides a free online platform with a range of resources tailored for film, TV, VFX, gaming, animation, distribution, and exhibition. These include checklists, a library of policies and agreements, and the "Do This" postcard series promoting good work principles.

The current pilot ends on 30 June 2026, with a follow-on programme until March 2029.

The role: strategic engagement lead

Strategic engagement is central to WorkWise for Screen. We are looking for a consultant to lead our engagement efforts during the final months of the pilot and to ensure a smooth transition to the next phase. The main aim is to strengthen collaboration with senior leaders, producers, and managers across all screen sectors.

Team structure and collaboration

The consultant will work with our Strategic Communications Consultant (March and April 2026) to provide clear direction and collaborate with a specialist, part-time engagement team:

  • Online community engagement manager: responsible for audience interaction and relationship building across digital channels.
  • Digital content consultant: delivers creative assets for LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube aligned with the engagement strategy.
  • Junior producer (CRM lead): manages HubSpot operations, including contact segmentation, newsletter distribution, and tracking.

Key engagement objectives

The consultant will lead activities designed to achieve the following:

  • Sector-wide awareness: raise the profile of WorkWise for Screen.
  • Resource utilisation: drive traffic to the platform and increase the active use of guides and templates.
  • Community growth: expand the following on LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube.
  • Newsletter reach: grow the readership and deepen interaction with the monthly newsletter.
  • Advocacy: increase partner endorsement and secure consistent support from sector organisations.
  • Thought leadership: strengthen WorkWise for Screen's position as a trusted resource.

Core responsibilities

1. Partnership and sector relations

  • Build and strengthen relationships with communication and engagement teams across sector partners.
  • Secure amplification of WorkWise content through these partner networks.
  • Represent the programme at both digital and in-person events.

3. Public-facing engagement and media

  • Develop an engagement-led media strategy for the pilot’s final phase.
  • Identify opportunities for thought-leadership placements and industry interviews.
  • Encourage conversations among senior figures.

4. Transition and wrap-up

  • Lead the engagement strategy for the final in-person event in June 2026.
  • Support messaging regarding the announcement of the next-phase delivery body.
  • Support the evaluation of the pilot.
  • Prepare handover materials to ensure continuity of sector engagement into the next phase.

Person specification

We are looking for a proactive professional who:

  • Has extensive experience in strategic engagement and industry relations.
  • Has strong knowledge of the UK screen industries.
  • Is confident leading autonomously after a short transition.
  • Is proficient in using HubSpot or similar CRMs to drive engagement.
  • Can navigate multi-stakeholder environments involving funders and industry partners.

Availability required (2026)

  • March: 2 days.
  • April: 3 days.
  • May / June / early July: up to 10 days.
